Oktoberfest on the South Bank: Eight Nights, and Only Eight

Right, the important bit first, because plenty of listings get this wrong.

Oktoberfest at Between the Bridges is not a three-week continuous run. It’s eight nights, Fridays and Saturdays only:

  • Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September
  • Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October
  • Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October
  • Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October

What It Is

Between the Bridges, on the riverside between the Golden Jubilee and Waterloo bridges, converts the whole site into a German beer hall. Two beerhalls, a central courtyard, street food kiosks and pop-up bars.

18:00 to 23:00 each night. 18+ with valid ID.

Live brass throughout – the Old Dirty Brasstards play 25 and 26 September and 9 and 10 October, Atomic Brass take 2, 3, 16 and 17 October. Miss Leigh Ding hosts, with DJ sets from Additional Flexin’.

Tickets

From £17 for the 25 September date, £19.27 for the October dates. Available through DICE, See Tickets, Eventbrite and Fever.

Every ticket includes a free two-pint stein of beer, which does a lot of the work on the value question. There’s a stein-less option if you’d rather not drink.

No refunds, so check the date twice before you book.

Where It Is

Between the Bridges, The Queen’s Walk, South Bank, SE1. It’s on the riverside, roughly ten minutes’ walk from Waterloo station, between the Golden Jubilee Bridges and Waterloo Bridge.

Before, or After, or Instead

A 6pm start is an awkward one. Most people finish work, get to Waterloo around half five, and have an hour to fill – and standing outside a beer hall waiting for doors is not the best use of it.

We’re Draughts Waterloo, Arch 16, Leake Street, SE1 7NN. Inside the graffiti tunnel under the station, five minutes from Waterloo and about ten from the river.

Bar, full kitchen, food to your table, over 1,000 board games. Come at five, eat something before the beer, play a game, walk down.

It also works as the sensible alternative. Oktoberfest runs 18+ and is a specific sort of night. If half your group fancies it and half doesn’t, or if you want the atmosphere without the standing, we’re two minutes further along the same walk and considerably warmer in October.

Book a table at draughtslondon.com – Friday and Saturday evenings fill up.
